In Milano there’s fervent activity ahead of the world congress in October. After the red week (April 25 – May 1) which saw great demonstrations, festivals and parades to mark the Resistance against nazists and fascists and May Day to celebrate the precarious class and the technoprecariat, the organizing committee met at Piano Terra under the shade of the Isola skyscrapers to plot the next steps. The fascist fossil Meloni government tried to void of meaning both festivities, but failed miserably and the good people of Milano did their part.
We have drafted the program http://www.wccj.online/en/first-meeting/ and have started inviting delegates. The first delegation being formed is the one from East Africa, headed by Aidah Nakku of Rise Up Kampala, composed of 3 young women and 3 young men from Uganda, Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo, territories recently affected by flash floods that have left hundreds dead. These activists fight against the climate emergency in their territories and the colonial extractivism of EACOP https://www.stopeacop.net/, the ecocidal oil pipeline project of Total that would devastate lands and communities of Uganda and Tanzania. Another one is currently being formed in Sweden. We have started gathering collective signatures/endorsements for the Milano World Congress for Climate Justice (as you know, movement diplomacy takes time). These are the groups that have so far shared the commitment to bring all of climate anticapitalism under one roof to deliberate, strategize and organize on how to upend the rule of fossil capital over our lives:

Lisbon is in fact a hot spot of End Fossil! The May movement that is currently occupying campuses and universities across Europe and the rest of the world, a network of which Ecologia Politica Milano, host of the congress, is also part. The movement is spreading like crazy and Italy is set to join. Let’s take fossil companies out of academic research, let’s end coal, oil and gas for good!
What else is left to say? On June 24, we’ll be having a day-long benefit at Cascina Torchiera, an ecolibertarian haven (it sent a bus of activists to Copenhagen in 2009) where there will be food market and vegetarian lunch, debates with transnational guests on post-apocalyptic climate activism and revolutionary thinking, and the aperitif and dinner with anarchist chefs, followed by all-night-long party curated by the author of RAVE NEW WORLD. Antifascist, Antiracist, Autonomist Milano awaits you, if you’re around in the summer, come and visit:)
